Every designer has their own toolkit of their favourite resources and tools that help them on a daily basis. A design toolkit can be as simple as a folder that contains templates, photography and screenshots of design inspiration but it can also be more complex including certain design tools like Sketch or Photoshop. In this article, I’ll go over some of my favourite tools and resources that I would recommend to anyone learning web design.
Adobe Creative Cloud
Adobe provides a collection of software that’s commonly used in different areas of the creative industry like graphic design, photography, video editing and web design. Many designers know that Adobe is that standard for any project as they have amazing tools like Adobe XD and Photoshop.
Creative Market
Creative Market is an online marketplace that sells community made assets like graphics, WordPress themes, stock photography and other digital goods for use by web creatives. They have a big selection of high quality assets and resources that you can use for your next design project.
Dribbble
Dribbble is a community of talented designers around the world sharing screenshots of their work, process and projects. It functions as a self promotion and networking platform for graphic design, web design, illustration, photography, and many other creative areas.
Dropbox
Dropbox is a cloud based file storage and collaboration platform designed for the modern workspace to reduce work, so you can focus on the things that matter. Dropbox brings your files together, so they are easy to find and safely synced across all your devices in case you need a backup version.
IconJar
IconJar leaves digging through your design asset folders behind and lets you access your icons without the hassle. This amazing icon organizer is always just one click away. It features incredible support for SVGs and icon fonts that you can drag and drop into any design app of your choice.
Sketch App
Sketch is the definitive tool for digital design. From its powerful vector editor to its plugin ecosystem, it has everything you need for your next project. Over one million designers, from freelancers to some of the largest companies in the world, use Sketch to turn their ideas into incredible products.
Streamline Icons
Streamline 3.0 is the world’s largest icon library created by talented designer Vincent Le Moign of Webalys. Weighing in at over 30,000 icons, 3 unique weights, 53 categories, and 720 subcategories. Icons were hand crafted and fine tuned with over 10,000 hours of blood, sweat, and vectors.
The Noun Project
The Noun Project is the world’s leading resource for icons. Their global community of designers build and expanding collection of icons. Anyone who needs to visually communicate their story can download icons for free, or subscribe for unlimited access to nearly 2 million royalty free icons.
Unsplash
Unsplash is a website dedicated to sharing free stock photography under the Unsplash license. The website claims over 150,000 photographers contribute and generate more than 9 billion photo impressions per month on their massive growing library of over 1,000,000 photos.
Webflow
Webflow is an application that allows designers to build responsive websites without any coding knowledge. Designers can accomplish most aspects of the web development process within the application. They empower designers, creative professionals, and entrepreneurs to create for the web.
