Mobile Mail App
After trying several different email apps, I wasn’t happy with the majority of them, so I wanted to design an app that I would love to use on a daily basis. In the process of trying different apps, I noticed a few issues, some of them could be overlooked but others ruined the experience. The biggest issue that I found was that some had a poor design which made them look outdated compared to popular apps. Something else that I noticed was the bad implementation of extra features which ruined the experience. To fix these issues and design an app that I would love to use daily, I decided to create a minimal email app that includes basic features any user would need while focusing on the overall design and user experience.

The Design Process
While looking for a new email app, I came across a lot of different ones that had some issues, so I could never find an email app that I would love to use daily. I noticed two main issues which were a bad implementation of extra features that ruined the overall user experience and designs that were outdated compared to other popular apps at the time like Facebook or Instagram. This made it frustrating to use the new email apps, so I kept going back to Apple Mail. After finding these issues, I had the idea to design an email app that I would love to use every day. I wanted the app to have a simple and minimal design aesthetic while including all the basic email features that any user would need.

App Style Guide
Since the design of this app is based on what I would love to use daily, I wanted to go with a colour palette that includes different shades of blue and grey which provides great contrast between different elements. I also decided to use a geometric typeface to give the app a modern look and feel.

Design Elements
There can be several elements in an app so while designing I wanted to make sure that everything was consistent throughout the app including the small details like the colour of the subject line. This will improve the overall experience since there are familiar elements across the app.

The Outcome
The design of the email app was inspired by something that I would love to use daily, it has a simple and minimal aesthetic with the use of solid colours and familiar icons that makes it compare well with other popular apps on the market like Facebook and Instagram. There was also a big focus to have a great user experience and that has been accomplished by only including the basic email features that any user would need without making their experience frustrating. The minimal design aesthetic works well with everything from the beautiful inbox screen with large contact images to the simple compose screen where users can write and email quickly without any extra features getting in their way.
