When someone is looking to buy or sell their property, it can be an overwhelming process and many websites don’t help with that. Some of the most popular real estate companies often throw too much information on their website without any organization, or they only focus on promoting the properties that they have for sale. This isn’t a great experience for the user, as it makes the process even more overwhelming and confusing. I wanted to see if I could improve the process by creating a design for a fictitious real estate company that makes it easier for the user to find what they are looking for while providing them as much information as possible, so they can make the right decision when buying or selling a property.
The Design Process
While looking at different real estate websites, I noticed that several of them had a lot of information that wasn’t organized well, which created a poor layout that ruined the user experience. For someone who is already overwhelmed with the process of buying or selling their property, this doesn’t help as it makes them more frustrated and confused. I wanted to solve this issue by only including important information on the homepage that helps guide the user through the process but at the same time promote a small selection of featured properties.
Website Style Guide
At the start of the project, I wanted to create a premium experience for the user, so I decided to go with a luxurious gold as the primary colour along with a serif font for the headings and a geometric sans serif font for the body copy which also provides a premium look and feel across the website.
Along with providing helpful information about buying or selling, the other focus was to showcase current property listings. Having a card style design allows more information to be shown so that users can browse through several listings at once until they find something that fits their needs.
Before starting to think about the design, I already knew that I wanted the website to help guide people who are currently overwhelmed with the process of buying or selling their property. There’s a lot of information on the homepage to help the user, from the different services offered to why they should choose Premium Properties. But there is also a section to showcase some of the most premium and exclusive property listings. Aside from the homepage, another big focus was the design of the property page. There’s a lot of detailed information about the property that’s organized into a beautiful layout that includes gorgeous interior images and some insights about the neighbourhood.
